Hap-py Birth-Day To You

Come join us at Try Stampin' on Tuesday for Challenge #490 and Double Trouble Paper #75 for a combo card challenge that includes a sketch, required the use of music, and zoo animals (now THAT'S a different kind of challenge!).

Since I wanted to do a birthday card, my mind immediately turned to the fun Stampin' Up! (SU) "Birthday Bonanza" Designer Series Paper (DSP). I found three patterns that I really liked. It started with the paper filled with different toucan images. I used my digital scanner/cutter/drawer to cut out the fun bird holding balloons (I left a .04" margin around the image). I cut three more outlines of the bird from heavy white cardstock and stacked them together behind the bird to raise him off the card surface to add depth and interest.

I don't have any birthday music paper, so I created my own by designing a line of music from the first phrase of the traditional birthday song. I created the drawing from scratch using straight lines, music notes, and then created the lyrics with hyphens to match up with the musical notes. I then drew these out with my ScanNCut2 onto birthday candle paper from the same set of pattern paper. The top of the card is the pattern on the back of the toucan paper.

I used orange polyester ribbon for the mandatory ribbon element in the sketch, and tied a short piece of ribbon around it to create the bow. The sketch had two round elements in the upper corner, but I felt the balloons were a good interpretation of this sketch element.

The card base is the standard 8-1/2"x 5-1/2" cardstock (SU Bermuda Bay), folded in half.

I'm rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" because I had to create my own music piece to meet the challenge.
