A Little Off Key

This holiday card was inspired by two card challenges this week:

Freshly Made Sketches #431 for the "a little off" card sketch itself.

-and -

52 Christmas Card Throwdown April Color Challenge #14-20 to use red and white on your card.

The hardest part for me was to accept that I wasn't going to be making a card with everything nice and centered! The sketch challenge specifically said the card was to be off-center. But me and my OCPD had such a hard time with this!! I mitigated this impulse to some extent by centering the red box inside the white box before I offset the whole thing! I'll live, but it sure looks strange to me

The sentiment was stamped using Versamark ink, then dusted with detail white embossing powder and heat set. I offset the stamped words to the right in line with the sketch theme.

I used stitched rectangle dies to cut out the red and white boxes, then ran then both thru my Big Shot again with a rubber impressions pad to make the edges even more defined.

All the layers were glued together using Tombow (which I like since it allows you to move your layers around to align them before the glue sets). There's my OCPD showing thru again!

The final step was to wrap red/white butcher's twine around the card front, and tie a simple bow. I used a small glue dot to hold the bow in place.

This card was simple easy, so I am rating its difficulty level as a "1" out of a possible "5". I'll have to send it to someone who doesn't mind things being "a little off" this coming holiday

  1. Hi Donna! I am so glad you challenged yourself with this off center sketch! I think your Christmas card turned out perfectly. If you need a recipient, you can always send it my way (wink, wink)! Red and white is such a perfectly classic Christmas color combo. Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!

  2. It's funny how doing something a bit different to usual can be unnerving, isn't it? But sometimes we discover something we love. Maybe you won't be off-centering all your cards from now on, but I love how it's come out. It has a quirky, look twice quality. Thanks for playing along with the 52CCT this week.

  3. I love things being off center sometimes! I really like the stamp set you used. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Beautiful and such a striking look! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
