This card would make a cute birthday or Valentines Day card. It was inspired by Joy of Sets Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge #013. For my card I chose the center horizontal line (red-hearts-ribbon).
I had just gotten the new Stampin' Up! (SU) "Bonanza Buddies" stamp set and matching dies, so thought this challenge would be perfect with the cute little koala bear.
The koala is stamped on white cardstock using SU Smoky Slate ink. His nose, mouth and eyes were created by inking the stamp with Versamark, then with black ink before stamping. Then coating the black with clear embossing powder before heat setting to make them shiny. I used an SU Stamparatus stamp positioner to get his nose in the right place. I then die-cut him out using his matching die.
The three-layer oval that the koala is mounted on was created with the SU "Layering Ovals" dies. I die-cut a white scalloped oval, then an dark gray plain oval, then a red glitter scalloped oval. The ovals were all glued together, then the koala was mounted on a matching die-cut craft foam base to raise him up off the card surface before gluing him to the white oval. I cut tiny slits between his fingers on his right paw to slide the sewing thread between so he could hold onto his balloon. The balloon is from the 1999 retired SU "Button Bear" set, and stamped with red ink onto SU Rose Red cardstock using the same technique as the koala's nose so it would have shiny red highlights. The balloon was also mounted on craft foam.
The card front is one of the pretty papers in SU's "All My Love" Designer Series Paper. It was mounted on a piece of the same dark gray paper used for the koala ovals. Before I glued the matted heart paper to the card base, I tied a ribbon around the panel with a little bow (which took me almost as long to tie as making the whole rest of the card - "My name is Donna, and I'm bow-challenged"!
Using the dies, this card was quick to come together (except for tying the simple bow, of course). I am rating the difficulty as a "2" out of a possible "5". Depending on how I decide to use the card, I may add a small sentiment banner at the bottom of the card.
