This is a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch #397 - which I rotated 90 degrees ; and this week's partner challenge Retro Rubber Challenge Blog which requires that each card have a stamp that is at least one-year old. After all – we want to give these old stamps some love!
The sketch's three banner flags in the upper left right away made me think of a nautical theme, and that made me recall the 2011 Stampin' Up! (SU) a truly masculine stamp set called "The Open Sea". For the flags, I pulled out my 2013 SU "Settin' Sail" photopolymer stamp set. The SU "Jar of Love" stamp set is from 2016. So I managed a triple stampin' love on this card!!!
The card base is SU Tranquil Tide cardstock, the mat is SU Mint Macaron, and the main panel is a nautical chart pattern paper from DCWV "Maps, Text & Ledgers" 8" stack.
The ship from the SU "The Open Sea" was stamped with SU Early Espresso ink onto SU Very Vanilla cardstock. It was fussy cut with paper snips and a craft knife. I trimmed the top flag and front bowsprit so that the ship would fit comfortably in the jar.
The jar was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink onto a recycled piece of acetate packaging, then fussy cut. The ship was glued to the back side of the acetate using Tombow, then adhesive foam strips were put on the back of the ship to lift it and the jar off the SU Mint Macron panel.
The flags were stamped using SU Tranquil Tide ink onto SU Mint Macaron cardstock, then fussy cut.
The SU "Itty Bitty Greetings" birthday sentiment was also stamped with SU Tranquil Tide, then diecut with an SU "Banners Framelits" die. Since I wanted the sentiment banner to be small enough to fit in the space without covering the word "ocean" on the pattern paper, I used my paper trimmer to cut a very small sliver off both long sides of the stamped banner (and the left edge), then diecut another banner from SU Tranquil Tide cardstock to use as the banner mat.
I am rating its difficulty at a "3" out of "5' only because of so much fussy cutting that was required. I think this will make a great guy birthday card.
